Chambertin Grand Cru Red 2021

Chambertin Grand Crus - 2021

  • Production:270 bottles and 12 magnums.
  • PhilosophyKing Chambertin. A mythical wine, the greatest of Gevrey-Chambertin’s great wines is often nicknamed "King Chambertin", designating both its undisputed title as suzerain of the northern Côte de Nuits’s Grand Crus and the fact that it was often reserved for service at the French kings’ court. Our extremely rare Chambertin - only one barrel is produced - is a legendary wine, a wine that the world’s most distinguished wine connoisseurs dream of tasting.
  • TerroirThe Grand Cru Chambertin appellation represents the heart of GevreyChambertin, as much from a symbolic as a geographical point of view, as the lieu-dit is located at the heart of the 9 Grand Crus, south of the village. The grapes come from 50-year-old vines located at the foot of the Chambertin vineyards, in the middle of the climat. The rows of vines run from the Route des Grands Crus towards the slope and thrive in limestone subsoils that contain white marls.
  • Vinfication and ageingThe grapes were sorted by hand then completely destemmed. Fermentation got off to a rapid start and was punctuated by a couple pump-overs and a gentle punch-down each day. After a week of post-fermentation maceration, the wine was racked and the pomace was gently pressed. Ageing took place in new oak barrels from the Chatillon forest (very fine-grained oak trees that grow very slowly) and lasted 16 months, with racking every 7 months.
  • Tasting notesThis wine’s gorgeous, deep red colour is complemented by nice viscosity. The first nose is intense and delicate, redolent of delectable aromas of red fruit (raspberry, redcurrant, cherry, blackcurrant) sprinkled with sugar, peaches, and fresh mint leaves. An elegant touch of oak is followed by nuances of camphor, beeswax and hints of cigar. Spicy scents (pepper, cinnamon, clove, paprika) enrich this wine’s infinitely complex nose. A superb start to the palate features pleasing acidity that is remarkably well integrated. The extremely fine tannins lend this wine a certain masculine character that is typical of Chambertin. Its exceptional structure guarantees immeasurable cellaring potential. This is a true pedigree wine.
