Nuits Saint Georges Premier Cru Aux Murgers Red 2016
Nuits-Saint-Georges "Aux Murgers"1er crus - 2017
PhilosophyOne of the main characteristics of Nuits-Saint-Georges’ wines lies in the great diversity of its terroirs, diversity that is found in the different styles of wines that vary greatly depending on where the grapes are grown. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the House of Edouard Delaunay illustrates this multiplicity by offering several selections from Premier Cru climats located both north and south of the village.
TerroirLocated amid the Premier Cru vineyards north of Nuits-Saint-Georges, on the Vosne-Romanée side at the bottom of the slope (250 metres altitude), this east-facing plot boasts deep, marly, silt-laden soil, which allows the vines’ roots to plunge deep down. This characteristic is reflected in the wine whose profile is rich and profound, fleshy and spicy and features silky tannins.
Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked at their peak of ripeness and brought to the winery quickly in small crates. They were carefully sorted before the majority of them were destemmed (30% of the bunches were left intact). After being transferred to tanks, they began to ferment naturally after a few days under the influence of indigenous yeasts. Maceration lasted 3 to 4 weeks with alternating punch-downs and pump-overs. After pressing, the young wine was transferred to oak barrels (50% new oak) and aged for 18 months before being bottled.
Tasting notesGorgeous deep red in colour with bluish tinges. The nose is superb and evocative of berries (blackcurrant, blackberry, raspberry coulis) underpinned by balsamic notes of liquorice and mint with a touch of basil followed by spices (paprika, pepper). Lovely fresh start to the palate, which is rich and deep, boasting remarkable maturity. Slightly wild nuances of boxwood and Russian leather. The ripe tannins are rather powerful and spicy and extremely pleasing. Excellent cellaring potential.
