- PhilosophyOne of the main characteristics of Nuits-Saint-Georges’ wines lies in the great diversity of its terroirs, diversity that is found in the different styles of wines that vary greatly depending on where the grapes are grown. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the House of Edouard Delaunay illustrates this multiplicity by offering several selections from Premier Cru climats located both north and south of the village.
- Terroir“Perrière” meant “quarry” in Old French. As its name would suggest, the soil in Les Perrières is lean and stony and the subsoil is composed of white marble that continues to be extracted today. The 45-year-old vines are managed in an ecologically responsible manner. This is a particularly early ripening plot due to the high proportion of limestone rocks that are warmed by the sun and transfer their heat to the soil.
- Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked at the beginning of the harvest period - this is the first plot to be harvested in the Côte de Nuits. The grapes were of exceptionally high quality for this 2018 vintage and careful sorting allowed us to select only the finest bunches of grapes, leaving 30% of them intact for this cuvée. Barrel ageing lasted 15 months (20% new oak).
- Tasting notesBeautiful red colour. The nose is expressive, fresh and airy, and features notes of strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate, apricot and vineyard peach, complemented by scents of dried herbs, thyme and mint, aromas reminiscent of the Mediterranean garrigue. Fresh, full start to the palate, yet rich and warm at the same time with flavours of stewed fruit (apple, plum, peach). Good balance between lovely acidity and tannins that are still a little tight, complemented by nuances of pebbles and flint for an overall mineral impression. A beautiful example of a Nuits-Saint-Georges hailing from stony soil.
