Chambolle-Musigny Le Village red 2021

Chambolle Musigny Village - 2021

  • AppellationChambolle-Musigny
  • Production1029 bouteilles
  • Philosophy In a class of its own. Internationally renowned, the little village of Chambolle summarizes the best that Burgundy has to offer in terms of elegance, depth, complexity, subtlety, and delicateness. Its wines are rare and boast somewhat of an extra dimension. They never cease to amaze, always revealing an unexpected palette of aromas and flavours. The Delaunay family, who lived in Chambolle until 1954, still has a sentimental attachment to this village and for whom this appellation is in a class of its own. Though the styles of Corton wines vary, they all have a definite boldness in common.
  • Terroir The grapes for our cuvée come from four plots (Les Chardannes, Les Herbues, Les Gamaires and Aux Echanges) which are all located in the northeastern part of the appellation, at altitudes of between 250 and 300 m where the calcareous clay soil is relatively deep, on the edge of the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation. This proximity can be detected in the wine which is more structured that many Chambolles, especially for the 2018 vintage in which the wines from this village are particularly concentrated.
  • Vinification and ageing Sourced from four plots that border on Morey-Saint-Denis, these Chambolle grapes were harvested at optimal maturity. Fermentation starts spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts after a short pre-fermentation cold maceration. Vatting lasts 15 days. The wine is than aged for 16 months in barrels, including 40% new oak sourced from Central France forests.
  • Tasting notesMagnificent carmine red in colour with velvety nuances. The nose is highly expressive and ripe with delectable aromas of toast, redcurrant and blackcurrant jam. Scents of sugared almonds are enhanced by subtle hints of pepper and mild spices. Warm notes of chocolate, black cherry and cedar. Generous, ripe, velvety start to the palate, boasting richness and immense depth. The palate offers lovely acidity that lends pleasing freshness. Rather firm tannins bear witness to this terroir’s clay-based soil. This deep, spicy, powerful wine is ideal for laying down and will reveal its full potential as it ages.
