Morey-Saint-Denis Le Village Red 2022

Morey saint Denis Village - 2022

  • AppellationMorey-Saint-Denis
  • Production 1 924 bottles
  • PhilosophyFar-reaching memories: Niched between its two prestigious neighbours, Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis holds particular charm for the Delaunay family with whose growers it has always maintained faithful friendships. As a matter of fact, it was there that Laurent Delaunay had his first experience with vinification in 1983 and discovered these fragrant, powerful wines that feature characteristic notes of rose and violet.
  • TerroirThe grapes that make up this cuvée are sourced from four different climats (“Les Craies”, “Les Cognées”, “Les Corvées Creunilles” and “Les Cheneverys”), all of which are located below the village, to the east. The vines thrive in deep, rich soil that lends the wine considerable power.
  • Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked and meticulously sorted so as to only retain the finest bunches of grapes, which were destemmed before being transferred to tanks. Daily pump-overs and light puch-downs were performed during the vinification process. Barrel ageing lasted 16 months (including 31% new oak from Central France forests).
  • Tasting notesLovely raspberry-red color. The nose is elegant and delicate, opening with fruity aromas of cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate, accompanied by floral notes of rose. Subtle hints of sweet spices (curry) and woody nuances reminiscent of freshly sawn wood (wild cherry, cherry, oak) blend harmoniously, with a discreet menthol note. On the palate, the attack is round and smooth, supported by well-integrated tannins that provide structure through the mid-palate and finish. The mouth is marked by a slight, pleasant sweetness (sugared almond) and pastry aromas of sponge cake and vanilla cream. This complex and intriguing wine reveals beautiful length and a refreshing finish. The fine tannins promise to soften and meld even further over time, allowing this fine Côte de Nuits wine to fully express its character as it ages.
