- PhilosophyOne of the main characteristics of Nuits-Saint-Georges’ wines lies in the great diversity of its terroirs, diversity that is found in the different styles of wines that vary greatly depending on where the grapes are grown. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the House of Edouard Delaunay illustrates this multiplicity by offering several selections from Premier Cru climats located both north and south of the village.
- TerroirLocated amid the Premier Cru vineyards north of Nuits-Saint-Georges, on the Vosne-Romanée side at the bottom of the slope (250 metres altitude), this east-facing plot boasts deep, marly, silt-laden soil, which allows the vines’ roots to plunge deep down. This characteristic is reflected in the wine whose profile is rich and profound, fleshy and spicy and features silky tannins.
- Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked at their peak of ripeness and brought quickly to the winery in small crates where they were meticulously sorted before a portion of them was destemmed (35% of the bunches of grapes are left in- tact). Once they were transferred to tanks, they began to ferment naturally under the influence of indigenous yeasts after a few days. Maceration lasted 3 weeks with daily punch-downs. After pressing, the young wine was barrel aged for 17 months (50% new oak) before being bottled.
- Tasting notesThis wine has a splendid dark red color, immediately evoking its depth and intensity. On the nose, it is distinguished by a remarkable elegance and finesse. The first impressions are marked by delicate floral nuances of lily of the valley and verbena, which blend harmoniously with fruity aromas of burlat cherry and orange peel zest. Then woody notes of fresh oak, wild cherry, mocha and cocoa powder emerge, complemented by a subtle touch of frangipani. Fresh, minty and floral notes of savory and sage. On the palate, this wine reveals great density from the start. The tannins are very present but coated and silky and give a beautiful length in the mouth. Both deep and long, this Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru will reveal all its character with age. To be decanted in his younger years.
