- PhilosophyOne of the main characteristics of Nuits-Saint-Georges’ wines lies in the great diversity of its terroirs, diversity that is found in the different styles of wines that vary greatly depending on where the grapes are grown. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Maison Edouard Delaunay illustrates this multiplicity by offering several selections from Premier Cru climats located both north and south of the village.
- TerroirThis Premier Cru is located to the south of the town of Nuits-Saint- Georges, near former hard limestone quarries. The soil is shallow, very well drained and rich in calcareous debris. Nearby limestone cliffs serve as protection for the plot and promote ripening. The grapes reach their peak of maturity rather early and are extremely concentrated.
- Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked and carefully sorted a first time in the vineyard and a second time at the winery before being completely destemmed, except 4 cases of the finest grapes which were pressed in whole Bunch. Vinification took place in oak vats and cuvaison lasted 15 days, punctuated by two daily punch-downs during the most intense stage of the fermentation process. The wine was then transferred into barrels (50% of which are new) sourced from the Allier forests of Central France, where it was aged for 16 months.
- Tasting notesMagnificent deep red color, with almost black nuances. The nose, elegant and powerful, reveals a beautiful maturity and seductive aromas of small black fruits (blackberry, cherry, blackcurrant), quite typical of its appellation. Aromas of sweet spices (turmeric, curry) are enhanced by a touch of gray pepper, bringing a nice freshness. The nose is intense, with a slight sweetness (dragee), with notes of grilled almond and gourmet nuances of raspberry and cherry coulis. On the palate, the attack is exceptional: broad and velvety. This wine offers a beautiful density, almost syrupy, promising to reveal all its character and complexity as it ages.
