Clos de Vougeot Grand Crus - 2022

  • PhilosophyCulture and heritage. Created by the monks of the Cîteaux Abbey be- ginning in 1109, the Clos de Vougeot vineyard and its famed château, one of Burgundy’s most emblematic monuments, bear witness to the monks’ ground-breaking work in establishing viticulture in Burgundy. The lar- gest Grand Cru in the Côte de Nuits, entirely surrounded by walls be- longs, in a certain manner of speaking, to all the local residents who go there regularly to attend events organized by the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin brotherhood
  • TerroirClos de Vougeot is one of today’s most sought-after appellations where approximately 51 ha of vines are divided among 80 owners. The two plots the grapes for our cuvée are located: to the west at the top of the walled vineyard (“Les Petits Maupertuis”), and to the north at mid-slope (“Les Dix Journaux”). Here, the limestone-based shallow soils at the top of the Clos become deeper and more clayey, yielding wines that are very elegant, yet also boasting great richness and depth.
  • Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked and sorted a first time in the vineyard and a second time at the winery. They were carefully selected and vinified with a significant proportion of whole bunches of grapes (60%). Vinification was punctuated by careful daily crushing to keep the stems intact. The wine is aged for 16 months with a proportion of 60% new oak from the forests of Central France (very finely-grained oak trees that grow very slowly).
  • Tasting notesSuperb vermilion red color with deeper, almost black nuances, of a beautiful intensity. A nose full of elegance and finesse, with a certain aromatic power. We perceive aromas of small red fruits (raspberry, cherry) and black (blackcurrant) enhanced by spicy notes (cinnamon) testifying to a great complexity. Fresh touch of peppermint, chlorophyll and cut grass. The attack is round and broad. The palate, of a remarkable density, presents a beautiful tannic power. Woody and spicy aromas (cedar, curry, cumin). A fruity wine with a slight sweetness (blackcurrant almond) and floral nuances (iris, rose, peony). This is followed by a subtly licorice and peppery finish, between freshness and power, typical of the Great Wines of this iconic appellation.
