Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru White 2022

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Crus - 2022

    • Production:1096 bottles and 12 magnums.
    • PhilosophyThe largest and most accessible of the Côte de Beaune’s white Grand Crus and the only one located north of the town of Beaune. The Corton-Charlemagne appellation covers the upper part of the southern side of the Corton hill. Its full southern exposure, from southeast to southwest, is rather unique in Burgundy.
    • Terroir Composed of grapes from the "En Charlemagne" (17 ha) climat located on the border between Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton in the upper part of the appellation, our cuvée benefits from west-southwestern exposure. The vines are planted in clay-rich, marly soil that lends the wines fine, powerful aromas and flavours and lovely acidity.
    • Vinification and ageingTThe grapes were handpicked and sorted a first time in the vineyard. After the grapes were pressed gently, only the finest juices were retained for the Corton- Charlemagne cuvée. The indigenous yeasts naturally present in the must initiated the fermentation process which took place slowly in barrels. During the ageing process regular and frequent stirring was performed during the first 6 months, then less frequently afterwards, to lend the wine added complexity and elegance and to develop its aromas and f lavours. The wine was barrel aged for 15 months (55% new oak from the Vosges and Allier forests).
    • Tasting notesBeautiful pale yellow, golden color. First nose expressive, rising and very complex, starting with some finely woody notes of hazelnuts and toasted almonds, followed by fresh touches of white pepper and white spring flowers (hawthorn, narcissus, daisy, etc.). Then come aromas of pastry (brioche, Williams pear) evolving towards refreshing nuances of citrus and candied citrus fruits (blood orange, candied clementine). Magnificent attack on the palate, round, long and broad, with a very beautiful dense texture. We find some finely woody tones of milk caramel, white chocolate or exotic fruit panna cotta (passion fruit). This great wine shows a very beautiful tension throughout, ending with a mineral touch and lemon nuances. A great elegant, deep and complex wine, with a magnificent balance that will reveal itself over time.
