Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Clos Saint Jean White 2022

Chassagne-Montrachet "Clos Saint Jean" 1er crus - 2022

  • AppellationChassagne-Montrachet 1Er Cru
  • Production:574 bottles and 9 magnums.
  • PhilosophyThe importance of terroir. We are happy to be able to illustrate the role terroir plays in Burgundy, in the heart of one of the most prestigious villages renowned for its great white wines, with our two Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru cuvées whose personalities, which are so well-defined yet so different, are the reflection of the unique terroirs they hail from.
  • TerroirLocated in the centre of the appellation, just at the edge of the village, Clos Saint-Jean is one of the best-known Premier Crus in Chassagne-Montrachet. The soil is rather varied: shallow at the top, deeper and composed of red earth closer down to the village. The grapes for our cuvée hail from the latter part, where the 40-year-old vines grow in deep soil made up of limestone marls, yellow and red clay, scree and limestone gravel. This climat is known for yielding rich, deep wines that boast incredible opulence.
  • Vinification and ageingAfter the grapes were gently pressed, vinification was conducted entirely in oak barrels at low temperatures. The lees were stirred regularly and thorough during the first 6 months of ageing, which lends a hint of brioche to the wine. Ageing lasted 13 months with a proportion of 50 % new oak, selection of French oak with very fine grain and very light toasting.
  • Tasting notesElegant brilliance and sublime golden yellow colour. The first nose is intense and highly expressive with fruity aromas of orange and mandarin peel. Fine scents of freshly cut grass and white blossoms lend pleasing freshness, enhanced by subtle nuances of Cologne. Superb, rich, generous start to the palate. A touch of freshness and a hint of mild bitterness lend balance. Remarkable length on the palate, boasting nice r ipeness and pleasing acidity. Very little oakiness, but sweet, milky notes (vanilla, panna cotta with yellow fruit) followed by delicate salinity. A splendid Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, endowed with great complexity and freshness.
