Beaune Premier Cru Les Greves Red 2021

Beaune Premier Cru Les Grèves 1er crus - 2021

    • AppellationBEAUNE 1ER CRU
    • Production: 2 586 bottles.
    • PhilosophyIn the aim of showing all of the diversity of Burgundy’s climats, we thought it would be interesting to offer a Beaune Premier Cru, a rare appellation in Bourgogne in which the surface area classified as Premier Cru is higher than that of the Village wines. And what better than “Les Grèves”, which for us is one of if not the finest Premier Cru in the appellation. Indeed, “Les Grèves” always boasts additional complexity, dimension and depth that make it a truly great wine.
    • TerroirThis emblematic Premier Cru is located in the centre of the Beaune village, at the bottom of the slope. The vines are planted in deep, calcareous soil that also contains clay and iron oxide. With its full eastern exposure, at altitudes of between 220 and 250 metres, this climat is known to yield rich, structured wines that boast great ageing potential.
    • Vinification and ageingThe entire harvest was handpicked, carefully sorted and completely destemmed. After 5 days of pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation got off to a slow, gentle start and was punctuated by occasional gentle punch-downs by feet. Cuvaison lasted a total of 18 days, after which the wine was barrel-aged for 15 months (40% new oak).
    • Tasting notesGorgeous deep red colour, reminiscent of ripe cherry. The nose features vegetal, slightly wild scents (wild raspberry, brambles), which are heightened by a touch of pepper. Elegant resinous (cedar) nuances mingle with notes of fresh oak and beeswax. Aromas of damp earth, humus and flint provide pleasing minerality. Superb start to the palate, which is endowed with perfectly integrated acidity, ripe tannins and great density that lasts throughout the tasting experience. A pleasing sensation of salinity is balanced by notes of cherry and cherry bark. A touch of dark cocoa powder. This wine boasts exceptional density and is ideal for laying down as its full potential will be revealed as it ages.
