- PhilosophyThe legend. If there is a mythical village in Burgundy, it is undoubtedly Vosne-Romanée, wreathed in its crown of incomparable Grand Crus (Romanée Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant…), and its legendary Premier Crus (Cros Parantoux, Gaudichots, Malconsorts…). The Delaunay family has historic ties with Vosne-Romanée that date back to the time when it distributed Grand Cru wines from the village’s great estates.
- TerroirThe village of Vosne-Romanée houses Burgundy’s most rare and mythical Grand Crus: La Romanée, La Tâche, Echezeaux... as it provides an exceptional terroir for the Pinot Noir grape. The grapes for this cuvée were sourced from vines over 50 years old that grow in deep, calcareous clay soil that lends richness and concentration to the grapes, a characteristic that is typical of the appellation.
- Vinification and ageingHandpicking allowed for the grapes to be sorted a first time in the vineyard. They were sorted a second time when they arrived at the Château’s winery. The entire harvest was destemmed before undergoing vinification that lasted 17 days. Very few punch-downs were necessary on this 2021 vintage. The wine was aged in French oak barrels including 50% new oak, during 15 months.
- Tasting NotesMagnificent deep red in colour. The nose is incredibly intense, evocative of delicate floral (rose, lavender) and fruity (cherry) aromas. Notes of mocha, cappuccino and liquorice open up to delectable scents of baked goods (bread pudding, vanilla, panna cotta). A mineral touch of graphite rounds out the nose. The palate is slightly saline, with lovely freshness and peppery tannins. The finish reveals flavours of coffee and cherrystone. This fine, powerful wine is endowed with remarkable length and will mellow with age to reveal its full potential.
