NUITS-SAINT-GEORGES "Les Poulettes" 1er crus - 2021

    • AppellationNuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru
    • Production588 bottles
    • PhilosophyOne of the main characteristics of Nuits-Saint-Georges’ wines lies in the great diversity of its terroirs, diversity that is found in the different styles of wines that vary greatly depending on where the grapes are grown. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Maison Edouard Delaunay illustrates this multiplicity by offering several selections from Premier Cru climats located both north and south of the village.
    • TerroirThis Premier Cru is located to the south of the town of Nuits-Saint- Georges, near former hard limestone quarries. The soil is shallow, very well drained and rich in calcareous debris. Nearby limestone cliffs serve as protection for the plot and promote ripening. The grapes reach their peak of maturity rather early and are extremely concentrated.
    • Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked and carefully sorted a first time in the vineyard and a second time at the winery before being completely destemmed. Vinification took place in oak vats and cuvaison lasted 19 days, punctuated by two daily punch-downs during the most intense stage of the fermentation process. The wine was then transferred into barrels sourced from the Allier forests of Central France, where it was allowed to age for 18 months.
    • Tasting notesMagnificent deep crimson in colour. The nose is intense and solar. Nice concentration which bears witness to the exceptional ripeness of the grapes. The first scents are fruity (cherry, raspberry, blueberry coulis), underpinned by spicy nuances (juniper, pepper). The palate starts off boasting pleasing acidity allied with saline minerality. This rather masculine terroir wine is endowed with impressive power. The tannins are still bold, but will mellow over time, resulting in a character wine of great finesse.
