Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits "Le Mont" Régionale - 2022

    • PhilosophyAnd what if the Hautes Côtes de Nuits were the future of Burgundy... A few ki- lometres to the west of the Grand Crus of the Côte de Nuits, with similar soil profiles, the vineyards of the Hautes Côtes de Nuits flourish… This is the seat of the Delaunay family, who settled at the Château de Charmont in l’Etang-Vergy in 1954. Here, the higher altitudes (100 to 150 m) of the vines could be a solution to climate change worth exploring with an offer of fresh, pure, elegant wines. Faithful to our history, we want to contribute to showcasing these terroirs of the future that further valorise our beautiful region of climats that is Burgundy, just as the monks of the Citeaux Abbey did in the Middle Ages. Our ambition is to identify and vinify separately, year after year, a few of the outs- tanding Hautes Côtes climats in order to showcase the unique qualities of these plots which, over time, could very well produce Burgundy’s future grand wines.
    • TerroirLocated on the heights of Premeaux-Prissey (south of Nuits-Saint-Georges), above the Nuits-Saint-Georges premiers crus Les Didiers, Les Perdrix and Clos des Corvées, at an altitude of around 375 m, Le Mont overlooks the south of the Côte de Nuits, of which it takes the eastern orientation. This perfect orientation and this location as close as possible to the Côte, as well as its white soils dotted with limestone chips, give this vine magnificent conditions to allow the Chardonnay grapes to ripen in the best conditions. Unsurprisingly, we find in the wines coming from such a terroir the most beautiful characteristics of Burgundian Chardonnays: perfect maturity of the grapes, elegance and balance, complexity and depth enhanced by mineral notes brought by the limestone terroir and the altitude.
    • Vinfication and ageingThe grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed in whole bunches. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrels (fine-grained French oak from Central France) and lasts about fifteen days. During the fermentation phase, light stirring and light micro-oxygenation alternate. The aging on fine lees that follows lasts 11 months.
    • Tasting notesBeautiful pale yellow color. The nose, expressive and complex, offers pretty vegetal notes of almond, freshly sawn wood and small white flowers (daisy, lime blossom). We then perceive some sweeter notes (barley sugar, red fruit candy) giving the wine a delicate and pleasant sweetness. A subtle touch of raspberry. The attack is superb, round and ample, with a beautiful, perfectly integrated acidity. The palate then lets refreshing aromas of mint and then anise emerge. An expressive, straight wine with a rich and long finish. .
