Santenay Premier Cru Beauregard Rouge 2021

Santenay Premier Cru Beauregard 1er crus - 2021

  • Philosophy Santenay’s Premier Crus, hailing from this southern Côte de Beaune village’s finest terroirs, are among the most affordable in Burgundy. These wines express perfectly the finest characteristics of the Pinot Noir grape in the region: freshness, expressive, straightforward fruit, and accessibility. They give immediate pleasure.
  • TerroirThe “Beauregard” climat, located north of the village of Santenay, at mid-slope (260 to 300 metres in altitude), is a plot known for the deep, complex wines it yields. Its calcareous clay soil that overlies limestone subsoil is lean but boasts optimal drainage, which contributes to the grapes’ concentration. The Cordon de Royat-pruned vines are 60 years old and the result of massal selection. They benefit from arguably the appellation’s optimal exposure to the sun (east-southeast).
  • Vinfication and ageing The entire harvest was destemmed followed by vinification that relied on indigenous yeasts and included very few punch-downs. The entire cuvée was barrel-aged for 10 months, with a proportion of 20% new oak.
  • Tasting notesBeautiful cherry-red color. Expressive, delicate nose of raspberry, followed by a touch of balsamic and fresh scents of rosehip flower and bramble. A lovely attack on the palate, fresh and taut, mineral and slightly saline. Aromas of red berries, redcurrant, wild raspberry and morello cherry. Peppery, well-integrated tannins with a refreshing finish.
