Vougeot Premier Cru Les Petites Vougeots Red 2019

Vougeot Premier Cru Les Petits Vougeots 1er crus - 2019

  • Production586 bottles and 6 magnums
  • PhilosophyNiched beneath the Musigny plots, between Clos-de-Vougeot and “Les Amoureuses” (no less!), the Vougeot Premier Cru vines represent by far the smallest surface area of Premier Cru vines in the entire Côte de Nuits (11.68 ha). They are therefore extremely rare and difficult to find.
  • TerroirThe grapes for this cuvée come from a plot located at the top of the “Les Petits Vougeots” climat, at altitudes of between 260 and 280 metres, adjacent to the highly famed Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru “Les Amoureuses”. The soil is both clayey and stony (due to a nearby old quarry), which lends delicateness and depth to the wine.
  • Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked and a portion of the harvest (approximately 25%) was not destemmed. Traditional vinification relied on indigenous yeasts and was punctuated by daily punch-downs (2 per day were performed during the fermentation phase). Maceration lasted approximately two and a half weeks, after which the wine was transferred to oak barrels (50% new oak) to age for 16 months.
  • Tasting notesLovely rich, bluish colour. The first nose is fresh, wild and complex. Notes of spices (cinnamon, mulled wine, turmeric, clove), fruity (cape gooseberry, cherry) and floral (hawthorn) aromas, and a hint of bell pepper are rounded out by scents of chocolate, hazelnut, roasted almond and nougatine. Splendid start to the palate that is fresh, smooth, fruity (cherry, sloe) and very delicate. Floral notes (white blossoms and wild rose) are complemented by lovely tannins and superb balance. It is recommended to enjoy this remarkably subtle wine in its youth
