Pommard Premier Cru Les Chaponnières red 2020

Pommard "Les Chaponnières" 1er crus - 2020

  • Production 3 060 bottles and 12 magnums
  • Philosophy Since 2019, these old vines of Pommard premier cru Les Chaponnières have been the first to be entirely cultivated by our house, which gives us better control over the technical process, better control of the quality of the grapes, and a closer link with nature and the land.
  • Terroir Located at the southern exit of this legendary village, at the foot of the hill, immediately below the famous "Rugiens", Les Chaponnières is one of the most beautiful "premier cru" terroirs of Pommard. The clay soils are deep, a depth that is found in the wines. Our vine, around 80 years old, made up of old, well-rooted gnarled vines, seems to have found a perfect balance, insensitive to the passing years. Its grapes produce a wine that expresses the depth and complexity of its terroir.
  • Vinification and ageing The grapes were handpicked at their peak of ripeness. They were meticu- lously sorted so that 30% of the harvest was able to be vinified as whole bunches. Fermentation took place naturally, under the influence of indi- genous yeasts. Maceration lasted 24 days. The wine was then aged for 17 months in oak barrels (30% new oak).
  • Tasting notesLovely dark ruby colour with bluish nuances. Superb, expressive, warm nose. The first nose features aromas of wild fruit (cherry, blueberry) and white-fleshed fruits (nectarine, peach). These are followed by bal- samic nuances (pine, cedar, heather), then spices (pepper) and a hint of tobacco. Finally, sweeter notes reminiscent of sugar-coated almonds, biscuits, brownies, and toasted bread surface. The magnificent start to the palate is warm and full, balanced by well-integrated acidity. The finish is reminiscent of f loral nuances (rose, peony, anemone), a touch of Russian leather and chocolate. The palate is long with dense tannins. This outstanding wine is best suited for cellaring and will reveal all of its character as it ages.
