Clos de Vougeot Grand Crus - 2020

      • Production1536 bottles and 12 magnums
      • PhilosophyCulture and heritage. Created by the monks of the Cîteaux Abbey be- ginning in 1109, the Clos de Vougeot vineyard and its famed château, one of Burgundy’s most emblematic monuments, bear witness to the monks’ ground-breaking work in establishing viticulture in Burgundy. The lar- gest Grand Cru in the Côte de Nuits, entirely surrounded by walls be- longs, in a certain manner of speaking, to all the local residents who go there regularly to attend events organized by the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin brotherhood
      • TerroirClos de Vougeot is one of today’s most sought-after appellations where approximately 51 ha of vines are divided among 80 owners. The two plots the grapes for our cuvée are located: to the west at the top of the walled vineyard (“Les Petits Maupertuis”), and to the north at mid-slope (“Les Dix Journaux”). Here, the limestone-based shallow soils at the top of the Clos become deeper and more clayey, yielding wines that are very elegant, yet also boasting great richness and depth.
      • Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked and sorted a first time in the vineyard and a second time at the winery. They were carefully selected and vinified with a significant proportion of whole bunches of grapes (35%). Vinification was punctuated by careful daily crushing to keep the stems intact. The wine is aged for 20 months with a proportion of 80% new oak from the forests of the Allier and Chatillon regions (very finely-grained oak trees that grow very slowly).
      • Tasting notesMagnificent deep red, almost black, in colour. Superbly fresh, expressive nose redolent of mentholated notes of camphor and eucalyptus along with a hint of plum. Scents of cherry bark and sap, almond paste, cocoa, roasted coffee and spices. Round, velvety start to the palate, rounded out by nice acidity and lovely freshness. Flavours of wild strawberry, cla- foutis and red berry sabayon. A powerful, full-bodied wine, boasting su- perb cellaring potential, that will acquire further finesse and elegance over time.
