Corton Grand Cru Rouge 2020

Corton Grand Crus - 2020

  • PhilosophyCorton Grand Cru, by far the largest in all of Burgundy (160 ha) and the only red Grand Cru from the Côte de Beaune, stretches from mid-slope in Ladoix-Serrigny to the east to the edge of Pernand-Vergelesses to the west. It is made up of a multitude of climats that, due to their distinct terroirs, produce wines that each boast their singular character. Though the styles of Corton wines vary, they all have a definite boldness in common.
  • TerroirOur Corton results from a blend of wines from several plots that are cha- racteristic of the appellation, a blend that can vary slightly from one vin- tage to the next for further complexity. In addition to “Les Bressandes” ( bottom of the slope with east-southeastern exposure) and “Perrières” ( bottom of the slope with southern exposure) climats, which are used each year, this year sees an addition of some wine from “Maréchaudes”, a small climat with eastern exposure at the bottom of the slope located just below “Les Bressandes”.
  • Vinification and ageingTThe grapes were handpicked and sorted a first time in the vineyard. The grapes from the 2020 vintage were completely destemmed. The different plots are vinified and aged separately before a final blend. Following a brief period of maceration at low temperatures, fermentation, got underway due to indigenous yeasts and involved a few l ight punch- downs. Cuvaison lasted 21 days. The wine was aged for 14 months with a proportion of 50% new oak barrels from the forests of central France, as well as the Vosges and Chatillon regions.
  • Tasting notesMagnificent deep red colour. Intense, extremely complex nose with ve- getal (bay, thyme, juniper, mint) and spicy (clove, gingerbread, pepper) notes that mingle harmoniously with fruity scents of vineyard peach and ripe cherry. The rich palette of aromas then opens up to nuances of cho- colate, a touch of Russian leather, incense, and finally a hint of rose petal. A superb start to the palate that is complex and long is followed by an impression of freshness thanks to this wine’s acidity and perfectly ripe tannins, with notes of fruit jelly and beeswax. A magnificent tasting ex- perience for the senses.
