Beaune Premier Cru Les Grèves 1er crus - 2020
- PhilosophyIn the aim of showing all of the diversity of Burgundy’s climats, we thought it would be interesting to offer a Beaune Premier Cru, a rare appellation in Bourgogne in which the surface area classified as Premier Cru is higher than that of the Village wines. And what better than “Les Grèves”, which for us is one of if not the finest Premier Cru in the appellation. Indeed, “Les Grèves” always boasts additional complexity, dimension and depth that make it a truly great wine.
- TerroirThis emblematic Premier Cru is located in the centre of the Beaune village, at the bottom of the slope. The vines are planted in deep, calcareous soil that also contains clay and iron oxide. With its full eastern exposure, at altitudes of between 220 and 250 metres, this climat is known to yield rich, structured wines that boast great ageing potential.
- Vinification and ageingThe quality and ripeness of the grapes for the 2020 vintage allowed us to vinify 5% of the harvest as whole bunches following a meticulous sorting at the winery. After 5 days of pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation got off to a slow, gentle start and was punctuated by the occasional pu- nch-down. Cuvaison lasted a total of 18 days, after which the wine was barrel-aged for 16 months (33% new oak).
- Tasting notesMagnificent deep, dark red with lovely bluish tinges and a very unctuous aspect. The first nose is delicate, spicy and balsamic (pine). Mineral notes of stone, gunflint and earth then surface, opening up to aromas of forest fruit (black cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant, cranberry) and gingerbread. A lovely start to the palate showcases this wine’s bold tannins. The deep soil in Les Grèves lends mineral, earthy notes, which are followed by hints of sloe and alcohol-preserved cherries. This is an intense, powerful wine that is ideal for cellaring.
