Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Pruliers Rouge 2019

Nuits-Saint-Georges "Les Pruliers" 1er crus - 2019

  • PhilosophyOne of the main characteristics of Nuits-Saint-Georges’ wines lies in the great diversity of its terroirs, diversity that is found in the different styles of wines that vary greatly depending on where the grapes are grown. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the House of Edouard Delaunay illustrates this multiplicity by offering several selections from Premier Cru climats located both north and south of the village.
  • TerroirThe “Les Pruliers” climat is named after the plum and wild cherry orchards that existed there in Roman times. Located south of the village of Nuits-Saint-Georges, halfway up the slope, this plot benefits from full eastern exposure and boasts deep, brown, rather sticky soil due to a thin layer of clay. This singularity can be found in the finesse of the wines, which are characterized by their assertive yet round tannins.
  • Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked at their peak of ripeness, then were completely destemmed after undergoing thorough sorting at the winery. After being transferred to wooden vats, they underwent traditional vinification with fermentation taking place rapidly, followed by 14 days of maceration that included daily punching of the cap.
  • Tasting notesGorgeous, deep red colour. Spicy nose (pepper, cinnamon, juniper, menthol) with scents of wild blue fruit (sloe) and stewed plums, complemented by smoky notes. The palate offers pleasing acidity, along with flavours of strawberry (wild strawberry, strawberries poached in wine) and a hint of blackcurrant sorbet, chocolate and Russian leather. This wine boasts character that is representative of its terroir, with structured tannins that guarantee excellent cellaring potential.
