Morey Saint Denis Premier Cru Les Millandes Red 2019

Morey-Saint-Denis "Les Millandes" 1er crus - 2019

  • PhilosophyEnticement... As Laurent Delaunay says, “the first time I fell in love with this climat that brings together freshness, elegance and depth dates back to the mid 1980s when I was learning about viticulture and vinification at the estate of a first-rate winegrower in Morey. This wine’s heady scents of violet and blue fruit, which evoke memories of my childhood, have always exercised their power of seduction over me”.
  • TerroirLocated in the middle of the village, just below Clos-de-la-Roche, on gentle red-earth slopes strewn with stones, the Les Millandes Premier Cru is always a marvel of balance. Like its upslope neighbour, it yields fresh, elegant wines that are counterbalanced by their maturity, power and depth, due to deep soil similar to that found in neighbouring Gevrey.
  • Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked and meticulously sorted so as to keep only the finest bunches. They were then destemmed and transferred to tanks where vinification began under the influence of indigenous yeasts and lasted 20 days, during which punch-down was performed daily. The wine was barrel aged for 16 months, in a one-wine barrel, previously used and rinsed with a red Bourgogne Côte d'Or.
  • Tasting notesSuperb red colour rouge with velvety bluish hues. The nose features scents of black fruit (cherry, blackcurrant) and conifer (Scotch fir, pine nut), rounded out by mineral (flint, gunflint, stone) and vegetal (Mediterranean herbs, thyme, eucalyptus, tobacco) notes. Magnificent velvety, fresh start to the palate. Flavours of fruit (orange peel, cherry, sloe), spices (paprika) and flowers (hawthorn, brambles) are rounded out by sucrosity and bold tannins. This is a superb wine for laying down and boasts exceptional complexity.
