HOSPICES DE BEAUNE - Meursault-Poruzots Premier Cru "Cuvée Jehan Humblot" White 2017

Meursault-Porusots Premier Cru "Cuvée Jehan Humblot" 1er crus - 2017

  • PhilosophyPhilosophy World-renowned, the Hospices de Beaune are one of the great Burgundian institutions. Founded in 1443 to help those most in need, the historic hospital is located in the heart of the old town in one of the most beautiful ensembles of European medieval architecture. Over the centuries, the institution has received donations and legacies from local families in the form, mainly, of vineyards which currently constitute, with almost 60 hectares, one of the most beautiful wine estates in the region. Vinified on site under the leadership of the charismatic oenologist Ludivine Griveau, these great prestigious wines are sold each year “en primeur” in November following the harvest, during a spectacular auction. Every year, and since at least 1916, the Edouard Delaunay house buys some of the finest vintages which it produces and then bottles with the greatest care for its best customers.
  • The Cuvée  Prosecutor and Royal Notary in Beaune, Jehan Humblot donated a vast property to the Hospices in the year 1600. Since 2005, this Cuvée de Meursault has been composed entirely of Premier Cru “Les Porusots”. All the vines date back to before 1974, some even dating from 1936 and 1953. The plot covers 0.79ha and produced 15 vines in 2017.
  •  Vinification and aging This wine was vinified by the charismatic oenologist of the Hospices de Beaune, Ludivine Griveau. Harvested by hand at perfect maturity, immediate pressing on arrival at the vat room then placed in barrels and fermentation carried out entirely in new oak barrels using native yeasts. This wine was then returned to the Delaunay cellars in December and its aging continued in the original barrels for a total of 17 months.
  • Tasting notes Very beautiful light yellow gold color. First nose of white flowers, acacia followed by notes of pastry: nougatine and vanilla. A superb attack on the palate, rich and intense but with very nice freshness. We once again find these aromas of pastry, of rum and raisin, which mingle with a touch of fresh oak. The balance and length on the palate are exceptional. Fullness and volume on the palate combined with freshness and tension which are the prerogative of the great white wines of the Côte de Beaune.
