Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Les Lares blanc 2022

Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits "Les Lares" Régionale - 2022

  • AppellationBourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits
  • PhilosophyAnd what if the Hautes Côtes de Nuits were the future of Burgundy... A few ki- lometres to the west of the Grand Crus of the Côte de Nuits, with similar soil profiles, the vineyards of the Hautes Côtes de Nuits flourish… This is the seat of the Delaunay family, who settled at the Château de Charmont in l’Etang-Vergy in 1954. Here, the higher altitudes (100 to 150 m) of the vines could be a solution to climate change worth exploring with an offer of fresh, pure, elegant wines. Faithful to our history, we want to contribute to showcasing these terroirs of the future that further valorise our beautiful region of climats that is Burgundy, just as the monks of the Citeaux Abbey did in the Middle Ages. Our ambition is to identify and vinify separately, year after year, a few of the outs- tanding Hautes Côtes climats in order to showcase the unique qualities of these plots which, over time, could very well produce Burgundy’s future grand wines.
  • TerroirLocated in the commune of Curtil-Vergy, a few hundred meters from our wine cellar at Château de Charmont, at an altitude of 375 m, below the old historic cellars of the Abbey of Saint-Vivant, the Lares plot faces south-west, enjoying cool mornings and beautiful late afternoon sunshine. Its clay-limestone soil reflects a beautiful balance between red clay and limestone. It is a typical terroir of the north of the Hautes-Côtes which produces pure, frank, refreshing wines with beautiful tension.
  • Vinfication and ageingThe grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed in whole bunches. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrels (fine-grained French oak from Central France) and lasts about fifteen days. During the fermentation phase, light stirring and light micro-oxygenation alternate. The aging on fine lees that follows lasts 11 months.
  • Tasting notesLovely golden yellow color, already announcing its richness and complexity. Very expressive nose of fresh summer fruits (white peach, nectarine) and citrus fruits (candied lemon and orange, yuzu) mixed with the delicacy of frangipane. Vegetal aromas of cut grass and chlorophyll bring freshness. We perceive delicate scents of pineapple and Williams pear. On the palate, the attack presents a remarkable balance between roundness and well-integrated acidity. Woody and slightly reductive notes (roasted peanut). The palate is straight, lively and presents a beautiful structure. A pleasure wine from the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, with a long finish and marked by great minerality.
