Beaune "Les Epenotes" Organic 1er crus - 2020
- PhilosophyNature. More and more of our purchased grapes are sourced from organically managed vineyards. However, we are not always able to make mention of their organic origins as we often blend these grapes with conventionally grown grapes selected from estates that practise environmentally responsible vineyard management. We are therefore happy, when it is possible, as is the case here, to be able to offer this Beaune Premier Cru Les Epenotes that is produced in complete compliance with the regulations of organic agriculture.
- TerroirLocated at the bottom of the slope at the southern extremity of Beaune, below Clos des Mouches, the Les Epenotes plot lies adjacent to Pommard-Epenots (Les Petits Epenots). Because the grapes grow in the same brown soil that is composed of marls and limestone pebbles, it is not surprising that the wines from these two appellations boast the same cellaring potential.
- Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked, completely destemmed and crushed. Vinification took place under the influence of indigenous yeasts and was punctuated by 4 gentle punch-downs. Barrel ageing lasted 13 months, using barrels that were between 1 and 3 years old.
- Tasting notesBeautiful cherry red in colour. Superb nose bursting with aromas of wild fruit (raspberry, sour cherry, cornelian cherry, redcurrant…) and still-hot jam. A magnificent start to the palate that features remarkable balance between roundness, elegance, delicateness and purity. Its delicate notes of leaven and flowers result from the influence of indigenous yeasts. Crisp fruit. Lovely density and depth on the finish with peppery tannins and pleasing acidity.
