PhilosophyThe legendary Côte de Nuits, with its succession of prestigious appellations that have enchanted the entire world, has the (justified!) reputation of producing unaffordable wines. Côte de Nuits-Villages is the exception to the rule. It may only be produced in 5 villages that border the heart of the Côte de Nuits: Fixin and Brochon to the north, Premeaux, Comblanchien and Corgoloin to the south. Côte de Nuits-Villages represents a fine introduction to the Côte’s great wines with all that it has in common to offer: elegance, distinction, and intense, fleshy fruit.
TerroirThe grapes for our Côte de Nuits-Villages cuvée are sourced from the lieux-dit “Vignotte” in the village of Comblanchien, which is well-known for its marble quarries. Its calcareous clay soils lend suppleness and body to the wines.
Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked, sorted at the winery and completely destemmed before undergoing vinification. Very few punch-downs were necessary in this exceptionally rich vintage. Cuvaison lasted 15 days, then the wine was transferred into barrels (50% new oak) for a 14 months ageing period.
Tasting notesLovely dark, velvety and deep colour. Splendid nose, very open, fresh and mature. Ripe red fruit (cherry) and some coffee notes. Superb attack in the mouth, velvety and rich, slightly spicy, with touches of gingerbread. The mouth is hearty and features notes of black fruit ( blackcurrant, blackberry), then some comforting chocolate touches. The tannins are well integrated and bring body and depth. Very beautiful wine, with an exceptional maturity, it embodies all of the elegance of the Côte de Nuits.
