Saint Romain Le Village Blanc 2020

Saint Romain Village - 2020

  • Philosophy Located just to the west of Meursault, at a slightly higher altitude, the village of Saint-Romain produces affordable wines that express all of the characteristics of the great white wines of the Côte de Beaune, renowned for being the world’s most prized region for the production of Chardonnay. Our Saint-Romain offers an introduction to the white terroirs of the Côte de Beaune.
  • Terroir This cuvée hails from the “En Poillange” and “La Périère” plots, located in the southern part of the appellation and facing due east, which allows the grapes to ripen well. The plots’ high altitude (between 320 and 360 m) lends the wine considerable freshness. The marl and limestone subsoil contains some layers of clay, lending minerality to the wine.
  • Vinfication and ageing The grapes were handpicked. Following gentle pressing of the grapes and thorough settling of the juice, to preserve all of the aromatic purity and originality of this terroir, the wine was vinified in barrels with a proportion of 30% new oak. Ageing lasted 9 months
  • Tasting notesGorgeous golden colour, and an intense nose reminiscent of brioche and hazelnut praline, opening up to scents of green plum jam and wild plants (linden, lemon verbena). The palate starts off round and sumptuous, boasting remarkable depth, yet is also extremely precise and fresh. Flavours of toasted almond, sugar-coated almond, lemon tart and caramelized pineapple. Perfect balance between ripeness and freshness. A noble white wine that is full-bodied, silky and refreshing.
