PhilosophyThe legendary Côte de Nuits, with its succession of prestigious appellations that have enchanted the entire world, has the (justified!) reputation of producing unaffordable wines. Côte de Nuits-Villages is the exception to the rule. It may only be produced in 5 villages that border the heart of the Côte de Nuits: Fixin and Brochon to the north, Premeaux, Comblanchien and Corgoloin to the south. Côte de Nuits-Villages represents a fine introduction to the Côte’s great wines with all that it has in common to offer: elegance, distinction, and intense, fleshy fruit.
TerroirThe grapes for our Côte de Nuits-Villages cuvée are sourced from two lieux-dits, “Vignotte” and “Vievigne”, in the village of Comblanchien, which is famed for its marble quarries. Its calcareous clay soils lend suppleness and body to the wines.
Vinification and ageingThe grapes were handpicked, sorted at the winery and completely destemmed before undergoing vinification. Cuvaison lasted 18 days, after which the wine was settled and transferred to barrels to age for 14 months, using 30% new oak exceptionally for this vintage.
Tasting notesGorgeous deep red in colour. Superb complex, hearty, elegant nose, testifying to optimal maturity. Ripe red fruit, cherry (highly characteristic of Côte de Nuits wines), red berry sabayon (stewed fruit, creamy vanilla custard), grenadine, and slightly spicy notes (mint, black pepper). Nuances of intensely fragrant flowers (peony, iris, a hint of boxwood). Gorgeous start to the palate featuring body, complexity and depth. Silky mouthfeel and a finish boasting ripe, well-integrated tannins. This wine embodies all of the elegance of the Côte de Nuits.
