Chassagne-Montrachet Le Village Blanc 2020

Chassagne-Montrachet Village - 2020

  • Philosophy Chassagne-Montrachet is one of the world’s top references for Chardonnay. Its poor, limestone-rich soils lend the wines assertive minerality and tautness that are complemented by richness and complexity that is developed through ageing and over time. Our Chassagne embodies the expression of these characteristics.
  • Terroir This terroir is most famous for being the “golden Triangle”, delimited by the Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet appella- tions, which produce the world’s most sought-after white Grand Crus. The grapes are sourced from a plot called “Les Champs de Morjot”, located south of the village, at an altitude of approximately 230 m, below “Les Boudriottes” and “Les Morgeots”. The soil contains both marls and pe- bbles, which lend the wine perfect balance between depth and minerality.
  • Vinfication and ageing The grapes were handpicked and sorted in the vineyard. Following slow pressing, the must was settled to clarify it. The juice was then transferred to barrels where it underwent fermentation under the influence of indige- nous yeasts, and lasted for up to 3 months, depending on the barrel. The wine was barrel aged on fine lees for 12 months, with a proportion of 33% new oak sourced from the Vosges and Allier forests.
  • Tasting notesBeautiful yellow colour with green highlights. The first nose is delicate and delectable, with aromas of yellow fruit, toasted hazelnuts, almonds, honey, macaroons and meringue, followed by mineral notes of gunflint and f lint. Scents of white f lowers, forest f lowers and linden are com- plemented by a slight touch of lemon. An impressive, bold start to the palate eventually yields to pleasing roundness and nice tautness. Flavours of fruit jellies, lemon and lemon curd. This magnificent Chassagne- Montrachet, features perfect balance between fullness and tautness, which is typical of this appellation.
