Chambolle Musigny Le Village Red 2019

Chambolle Musigny Village - 2019

  • Philosophy In a class of its own. Internationally renowned, the little village of Chambolle summarizes the best that Burgundy has to offer in terms of elegance, depth, complexity, subtlety, and delicateness. Its wines are rare and boast somewhat of an extra dimension. They never cease to amaze, always revealing an unexpected palette of aromas and flavours. The Delaunay family, who lived in Chambolle until 1954, still has a sentimental attachment to this village and for whom this appellation is in a class of its own. Though the styles of Corton wines vary, they all have a definite boldness in common.
  • Terroir The grapes for our cuvée come from four plots (Les Chardannes, Les Herbues, Les Gamaires and Aux Echanges) which are all located in the northeastern part of the appellation, at altitudes of between 250 and 300 m where the calcareous clay soil is relatively deep, on the edge of the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation. This proximity can be detected in the wine which is more structured that many Chambolles, especially for the 2018 vintage in which the wines from this village are particularly concentrated.
  • Vinification and ageing Sourced from four plots that border on Morey-Saint-Denis, these Chambolle grapes were harvested at optimal maturity. Light punch-downs and gentle pump-overs were performed so as to preserve this wine’s finesse and showcase its terroir. Ageing lasted 18 months, an exceptionally long time that was possible due to the incredible richness of this vintage. A proportion of 40% new barrels were used, crafted with oak from the forests of central France.
  • Tasting notesAlmost black in colour, with an incredibly complex, powerful nose featuring nuances of oak, black fruit, raspberry, along with burnt wood and roasted notes followed by spicy (turmeric, eucalyptus, menthol) and vegetal (blackcurrant leaf and light tobacco) scents. The rich, powerful palate starts off with a pleasing impression of sucrosity. Flavours of wild fruit and ripe cherry, raspberry jam and blood orange are followed by nuances of gingerbread, cardamom… The finish is powerful with elegant, assertive tannins that guarantee this wine’s exceptional cellaring potential.
