Santenay Premier Cru Beauregard Red 2018

Santenay Premier Cru Beauregard 1er crus - 2018

  • Philosophy Santenay’s Premier Crus, hailing from this southern Côte de Beaune village’s finest terroirs, are among the most affordable in Burgundy. These wines express perfectly the finest characteristics of the Pinot Noir grape in the region: freshness, expressive, straightforward fruit, and accessibility. They give immediate pleasure.
  • TerroirThe “Beauregard” climat, located north of the village of Santenay, at mid-slope (260 to 300 metres in altitude), is a plot known for the deep, complex wines it yields. Its calcareous clay soil that overlies limestone subsoil is lean but boasts optimal drainage, which contributes to the grapes’ concentration. The Cordon de Royat-pruned vines are 60 years old and the result of massal selection. They benefit from arguably the appellation’s optimal exposure to the sun (east-southeast).
  • Vinfication and ageing 10% of this cuvée was crafted from whole bunches of selected grapes, at their peak of ripeness to lend structure to the blend. Vinification relied on indigenous yeasts and was punctuated by 4 punch-downs. Oak barrel ageing (20% new oak) for the entire cuvée lasted for 9 months.
  • Tasting notes Gorgeous, deep colour. The nose explodes with black cherry and clafoutis, redcurrant and raspberry aromas, followed by spicier, more balsamic notes (pine resin, peppermint, violets). The lovely, long, elegant start to the palate is bursting with freshness and features flavours of red berry sabayon, liquorice and cigar. Refreshing acidity and assertive though well-integrated tannins. A very fine wine that boasts superb maturity.
