Puligny Montrachet Premier Cru Les Referts White 2018
Puligny-Montrachet "Les Referts"1er crus - 2018
Philosophy Alongside the opulent, powerful Meursaults and the rich, mineral Chassagnes, are the pared-down wines of Puligny-Montrachet. Precise, linear and pure are the characteristics of the wines from this small, world-renowned village and they particularly shine through in the Premier Crus.
Terroir Located to the north of the village of Puligny-Montrachet, bordering Meursault, the Les Referts Premier Cru climat lies uphill from the Meursault-Charmes plots. The 30-year-old vines are planted at the foot of the slopes in rather deep, marly soil, which lends the same maturity and richness that are found in Les Charmes. However, this wine’s elegant, linear framework and its floral bouquet reveal all of the typicity of the Puligny-Montrachet appellation.
Vinification and ageing The grapes were handpicked and sorted in the vineyard. After gentle pressing, the finest juices were vinified in casks at low temperatures. Barrel ageing (33% new oak) lasted 18 months.
Tasting notes Beautiful pale yellow in colour with an open, expressive nose that is pure and fresh. Scents of white blossoms, jasmine, and white peach are underpinned by a slight touch of pine sap. Starts off refreshing yet round on the palate for a very pleasing sensation with flavours of nougat, fresh hazelnut, angelica, lemon verbena and a hint of strawberry. This wine is long and fresh, boasting lovely acidity and finishing on a slightly flinty note. Excellent ageing potential.
